    Hi Teresa,
Great demo.. i tried it.. and uhmmm… it turn out to be a beanie for a elf rather than a man… hehehe
i am using a size 8 hook and my yarn is 4 ply acrylic … i see you are using size I in which its a 5.5 mm hook, mine is like one size smaller it would be probably a size H… do i need to add more rounds to make it bigger?

This will involve “trial and error”. You may want to increase every 4-5 stitches until you get the size you are looking for.

    With the stripe cap …
With the stripe cap, I recommend staggering where you join each new color. If you are joining in the previous stitch, there is excess yarn which will cause the seam to point. Turn the cap around to a random stitch and join in a different location for each color change. This will help reduce the point and a seam.

    I’m getting tripped …
I’m getting tripped up on round 6. On the video, I don’t really follow the whole increasing process. It looks like the 1st stitch is one SC, the 2nd stitch is four SC, the 3rd stitch two SC, the 4th stitch one SC. After that, I can’t follow–do you continue with the same pattern?
ps: Thanks for all these wonderful tutorials! :-)

No, when I use a different kind of yarn with the same stitches it’s fine. I think it’s the type of yarn for some reason. I’ve had this happen a couple of times. I redid it last night with another type of yarn it’s fine. Weird.

    Maybe you are still …
Maybe you are still increasing? Once you stop increasing the sides will start to form a couple rounds later. If you are using a larger yarn, the overall hat will be larger.

How come when I make this hat, the sides don’t go down? It just keeps getting rounder and rounder and looks like a beret. Is it the type of yarn? I’m doing all the stitches correctly.
